The Challenge

Consolidate various plots and secure urban zoning permits to develop infrastructure to create a unique tourism and residential concept along the Costa del Sol, building a blueprint for financially feasible, profitable, and climate-positive developments along the coast. Return Costa del Sol to its former glory through a regenerative approach.

The Approach

Incorporate high-end amenities and multiple green areas with a strong focus on improving local biodiversity. Design an advanced power grid with heat pumps, geothermal energy, and photovoltaic panels, with all rainwater recuperated and processed on-site. Modify roads, improve access to public services, and offer greater accessibility.

The Outcome

Contributed to the regeneration and transformation of the Costa del Sol tourism sector through an attractive and climate-positive development designed to be adaptable to climate challenges the coast will face in the future. Introduced a new standard that will become a blueprint for future communities.

Torrecarbonera is part of the municipality of San Roque, located in the southern Spanish province of Cadiz. Directly along the Costa del Sol’s beachfront, the region draws in large numbers of foreign and domestic tourists and residents.
